Three of the four scratches of the first day. That is the award for the Asturian pilot José Antonio Suárez Cohete in the first day of the Rally Princess of Asturias-City of Oviedo 2018. Only Ivan Ares, who has achieved the only scratch that Cohete has let escape, threatens his reign. These are the two names that have pointed out in the two passes of the special stages of Candamo and Llanera that have been raced today. The rest of the favorites seem to move, however, at a slower speed. Daniel Solá, in his return to the Spanish Rally Championship of Asphalt (CERA), occupies the third place, followed closely by Surhayen Pernía. The four, in their R5 that make the fans enjoy.
The section of Llanera (TC4 Llanera), the last one of the day, has served to consolidate Cohete. Driving his Hyundai i20, he has stopped the clock at 10: 11,500. Ares has benn at 1,700 and Solá at 9,800. Pernia, a bit more pulled away, has lost 17,000. The section had to be neutralized by the accident of Hugo R. Oliveira, using an alternative route for vehicles that had not crossed the starting line yet.
Fuster is out
Throughout the day, there have been some significant dropouts. Miguel Fuster has been the last one, as his Ford Fiesta R5 caused him some problems in the second pass of Candamo. His withdrawal joins others registered throughout the day as José María López, Marco Bulacia, Pedro Antunes or Cameron Davies. Fuster knows what to win the Princess of Asturias means, as he has in his glass cabinets the cup of the 51st edition.
By now, he Asturias Championship has a clear winner. This is Oscar Palacio, aboard his Ford Fiesta R5, and Enrique Velasco as co-pilot.
The Legend, one of the maximum attractions of the latest editions of the Rally Princess of Asturias-Ciudad de Oviedo, will join the competition tomorrow. In the Gr. A Legend Rally, there are 34 registered participants. The last scheduled section, the Oviedo-Uviéu international, will be broadcast live on the Autonomic Television of the Principality (TPA), starting at 5.30 pm.
